Lesson 3

Start with the end in mind. What do you want your website to achieve? Whether it’s selling products, booking consultations, or simply raising brand awareness, your goals will dictate which pages you need. Make a list of your top objectives because each page on your site should serve a purpose in reaching them.

Creating a Clear Journey

Lesson 4

Step 1: Define Your Goals

Mapping out a crystal-clear customer journey on your website starts by curating your website pages. It's all about crafting a path that gently guides them from their first click to the final action you want them to take—whether that's making a purchase, signing up for a newsletter, or scheduling a consultation.

One of the first and most critical steps is deciding which pages your site absolutely needs. Let’s dive into how you can make these choices confidently:

Who are you speaking to? Understanding your audience is key to determining the pages you need. If you’re targeting busy professionals, maybe you’ll need a straightforward booking page. Catering to the visually-driven? A gallery or portfolio page could be essential. Think about what your visitors are looking for and how you can make their journey through your site as smooth as possible.

Step 2: Know Your Audience

There are a few staples almost every website should have:

  • Home Page: Your virtual front door. It sets the stage for your brand’s story.
  • About Page: Here's where personality shines. It’s where you tell your tale and connect on a personal level.
  • Offer or Services Page: What are you offering? Make it clear and compelling. This could be in the form of a sales page, services (or “work with me”) page.
  • Contact Page: Make it easy for folks to reach out. Trust me, accessibility can make or break relationships here.

Step 3: Know the Essential Pages

  1. Make a list of your top objectives because each page on your site should serve a purpose in reaching them.

  2. Make a list of pages your website will need (including the essential pages listed above).

HOMEWORK

It’s almost time to design, friend! Before we get started, go ahead and gather your copywriting. Whether you’ve hired a copywriter or you’re going the DIY route, here are some tips to help make the design process seamless:

Ready to design?

  1. If possible, try to keep a copy of your copywriting in a separate document. Even if you’re using the copywriting in our template to guide you, it’s best to keep a backup in a separate area!

  2. Keep things short and sweet (especially on the homepage!). No one wants to read a 10 paragraph long about section on your homepage.
